In fulfilling his mandate to “Increasing corporate prayer and healing services in all churches for revival” as outlined in the charge, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has called on men across the Diocese to live prayerful lives and become role models in society. He made the call during the Diocesan Men’s Day of Prayer and Fasting held at the Emmanuel Cathedral Consecration Site.
Bishop Asiimwe expressed concern over the increasing cases of alcoholism, sexual immorality, and prostitution, noting that these had greatly affected families and contributed to the spread of HIV. He, however, said the large number of men attending the prayer gathering gave him hope that God was bringing healing to the Diocese and the district.
Preaching from 1 Corinthians 11:1, the Bishop urged the men to become role models whose lives reflect Christ. He encouraged them to lead by example in their families, love and care for their wives faithfully, avoid spending their resources on alcoholism and prostitution, and embrace coffee growing to improve household incomes. Referring to the story and life of Lazarus in John 11, he said men should live lives that draw others to Christ.
The guest speaker, Lay Canon Samuel Bakutana, challenged the men to remain connected to God, saying they were created to be caretakers, protectors, and spiritual leaders of their families.
Preaching from 2 Thessalonians 3:1–18, he encouraged them to work hard, avoid laziness, and make decisions that honour God. He further urged men to work hard so they would not become a burden to others.
Lay Canon Bakutana further urged the men to move away from careless and lukewarm Christianity and become committed men of Christ whose lives can be read and emulated by their children and people in society.
He also encouraged them to prioritise their relationship with God, their spouses, and their children before their careers, while calling on fathers to be present in their families and men living in cohabitation to solemnise their marriages.
The day ended with great joy as 40 men gave their lives to Jesus Christ and received Him as their personal Lord and Saviour.
