The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has consecrated Kigarigari Sub-Parish in Kashenyi Archdeaconry to St. Peter’s C.o.U
The consecration service brought together hundreds of Christians from North Kigezi Diocese and beyond to witness the historic occasion, marking a major milestone of a long journey that began when the church was established in 1948.
In his message, Bishop Asiimwe called upon Christians to return God’s love by wholly committing themselves to His service. He urged them to remember where God had brought them from and to break away from negative family and spiritual patterns that hinder their growth in faith.
The Bishop also encouraged Christians to acknowledge their wrongdoings and seek forgiveness from God, emphasizing that God alone forgives and makes people holy. He particularly challenged the youth to desist from sexual immorality, lust and drug abuse, including alcoholism, which he said contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
Bishop Asiimwe further reminded Christians that many people remain spiritually bound even while serving God in sin. He emphasizMuhirwe, thanked Bishop Asiimwe for accepting the long-standing request from the Kigarigarirvice was also marked by a significant spiritual response, with hundreds of people receiving Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour, while others recommitted their lives to Christ.
The Archdeacon of Kashenyi, the Ven. Edison Muhirwe, thanked Bishop Asiimwe for accepting the long-standing request from the Kigarigari Christian community to have their church consecrated and dedicated to St. Peter. He pledged to work closely with the Christians to complete the remaining development projects and prepare the Sub-Parish for eventual elevation to parish status
Speaking to the congregation, Maama Florence Asiimwe encouraged Christians to embrace Bishop Asiimwe’s call to promote coffee growing as a source of income for the Church and individual families.
The Sub-Parish Head of Laity, Henry Namara, expressed gratitude to the Bishop for granting their long-standing request. He pledged continued support towards the development of the church, including completing the church quarters and expanding coffee growing.
Namara also thanked God for the consecration and commended the Archdeacon of Kashenyi for working closely with the Christians on various development initiatives, including tree planting, the development of Kigarigari Primary School, banana plantations and coffee growing. He appealed for continued support from the Bishop’s Office towards projects that strengthen the Church’s ministry and development.
The consecration marked an important milestone in the history of Kigarigari Sub-Parish and renewed the Christian community’s commitment to spiritual growth, service and sustainable development.
