The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, made a significant contribution of UGX 100 million during a fundraising dinner aimed at completing Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyansano in the North Kigezi Diocese, Rukungiri District.

The event, held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Kampala Serena Hotel, was organised by the North Kigezi Diocese Cathedral Construction Committee and the Cathedral Fundraising Committee, in collaboration with the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese and the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.

While addressing attendees, Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe emphasised the spiritual significance of the cathedral.

“Though God does not dwell in human-built structures, Emmanuel Cathedral will attract His presence, serve as a symbol of unity, and command His blessings upon North Kigezi Diocese,” he said.

As the guest of honour, Speaker Among’s contribution was delivered by the Minister of Finance (General Duties), Hon. Henry Musasizi, who also personally donated UGX 10 million. Hon. Musasizi expressed gratitude for the diocese’s leadership and the faithful Christians dedicated to completing the cathedral.

“The collective efforts of Bishop Onesimus and the Christians will create a beautiful place of worship, fostering spiritual growth and community. Together, we’re building more than just a cathedral; we’re building a symbol of faith, hope, and unity,” he remarked.

The event attracted a diverse group of notable attendees and contributors, including Diplomats; Prof. Sam Turyamuhika, Uganda’s Ambassador to Somalia, Consular Bamwine Quillino, Prof. Alex Bashasha, ministers; Hon. Henry Musasizi, representing the guest of honor, Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim K. Muhwezi, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Hon. David Bahati, Hon. Alice Kaboyo Elders; Hon. Canon Mathew Rukikaire, Hon. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Henry Tumukunde, Hon. Naboth Namanya, Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, Hon. The fundraising dinner raised UGX 1 billion (cash and pledges) out of the UGX 2.7 billion needed to complete the cathedral.

This landmark project symbolises not just spiritual growth but also the unity and resilience of the community in Rukungiri District. Bishop Asiimwe and the diocese’s leadership expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed, emphasising that the effort reflects the power of faith and collective action.
