The Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, officially inaugurated Kyabugashe Archdeaconry and installed the Venerable Amos Katushabe as its first Archdeacon during a service held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at St. Peter’s Church of Uganda, Kyabugashe, located in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rujumbura Constituency.

In his sermon, Bishop Asiimwe urged Ven. Katushabe to build his ministry on the strong foundation of Jesus Christ, emphasizing the responsibility of shepherding God’s people. Drawing from Galatians 6:9, the Bishop encouraged both the new Archdeacon and the congregation to “sow in the Spirit” through faithful service and the preaching of God’s Word.

Kyabugashe Archdeaconry was officially carved out of Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry earlier this year and comprises four parishes: Kyabugashe, Mashongora (a newly established parish), Munyeganyegye, and Masya.

Bishop Asiimwe called on Ven. Katushabe to make prayer central to his ministry, describing it as essential to effective service in the Kingdom of God. He further advised the Archdeacon to avoid political involvement, urging him instead to focus solely on spiritual leadership.

In a message to the congregation, Bishop Asiimwe appealed to believers to turn away from sin and surrender their lives to Jesus Christ. As a result, many came forward to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.

During his speech, Ven. Amos Katushabe expressed heartfelt gratitude to the congregation for their support and care during a recent challenging time. He also thanked God for the healing of his wife, Mrs. Catherine Katushabe, who underwent brain surgery. Mrs. Katushabe personally gave thanks for her recovery and expressed appreciation for Bishop Asiimwe’s pastoral visit while she was hospitalized at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

The event was graced by the Hon. Minister Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, who commended Bishop Asiimwe and other religious leaders for their partnership in promoting the government’s socio-economic transformation agenda. He encouraged Christians to embrace the Parish Development Model as a pathway out of poverty and pledged his full support to the new Archdeacon and the entire archdeaconry.
