Nyabiteete Secondary School’s Girl Guides, known as the Elgon Crew, have been officially commissioned and blessed by Bishop Onesimus after winning the National Scouts School Competition. Their victory has earned them the prestigious opportunity to represent all secondary schools in Uganda at the East African Scouts Championship in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, scheduled for 14th–22nd December.
The commissioning meeting was held at the North Kigezi Diocesan offices, where the girls were warmly received by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe. The Bishop congratulated them on their remarkable accomplishment and reminded them of the significance of the journey ahead.
During the meeting, Bishop Onesimus delivered a powerful message of encouragement.
“You have been given an opportunity. Remove self-pity; you are not just a village school,” he said. “You are now going to represent the entire country. Forget the village mentality. Numbers 13:33 teaches us that if you fight the battle in your mind, you will win every battle.”
He emphasized the honor of carrying Uganda’s national flag, urging them to compete with pride and confidence. “Your gift opens doors; a man’s gift ushers him before great men,” he added, reminding them that their talents have brought them to a place of visibility and great responsibility
The Bishop concluded the meeting by praying for the team, commissioning them for the mission ahead, and speaking a blessing over their travels, preparation, and performance.
The Girl Guides expressed gratitude for the encouragement and spiritual support. With their commissioning complete, they now prepare to face the best teams in East Africa, determined to raise Uganda’s flag high in Tanzania.
