Candidates of Makobore High School and Kinyasano Girls’ High School have been encouraged to build their confidence in God, work hard and avoid panic and fear as they prepare to sit their final examinations.
The call was made by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, during a joint dedication service for candidates from the two sister schools held at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano.
Bishop Asiimwe told the students that dedicating them to God meant acknowledging that their success ultimately depends on God, while also recognising the importance of personal effort, discipline and preparation.
He encouraged the candidates to strike a balance between hard work and prayer, urging them to study diligently as though their success depended entirely on their preparation, while also praying as though it depended entirely on God.
The Bishop further emphasised that academic success requires commitment from both students and teachers. He explained that while students are responsible for learning, teachers play an important role in identifying and developing each learner’s potential. Quoting Professor Eric Lucas on school practice, he noted that when a student has not learnt, it may indicate that the student teacher has not effectively taught.
Bishop Asiimwe reminded the candidates that every student has the capacity to learn and urged teachers to continue nurturing that potential through effective teaching and guidance.
Referring to Luke 12:12, he encouraged the students not to fear their examinations but to remain confident in the Lord, trusting that the Holy Spirit would guide them as they respond to the questions, provided they had adequately prepared by reading and studying their books.
He described the upcoming UNEB examinations as a mountain that the candidates must face with courage, cautioning them against panic and fear, which he said can negatively affect their performance. He also encouraged them to make wise choices when selecting examination options and to approach the papers calmly.
Referencing Psalm 20:1–7, Bishop Asiimwe reminded the candidates that God remembers the efforts and sacrifices of those who trust in Him. He urged them to place their confidence not in their own wisdom or possessions, but in the name of Jesus Christ, particularly during times of difficulty and pressure.
He further encouraged the candidates to combine their dependence on God with serious preparation, noting that prayer should go hand in hand with hard work.
The Headteacher of Kinyasano Girls’ High School, Madam Allen Kiyasiimire, thanked Bishop Asiimwe for his leadership and commitment to the revival and development of the two schools. She noted that both institutions had benefited from his leadership since his consecration as Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese on March 12, 2026.
Madam Allen Kiyasiimire also commended the students of Makobore High School for their good discipline and urged the candidates to maintain discipline as they prepare for their examinations.
The Headteacher of Makobore High School, Mr. Gad Gakibayo, called upon the students to avoid behaviours that could derail their future, particularly alcoholism, drug abuse and early sexual. He encouraged them to remain focused on their education, work hard and pursue their dreams with determination.
Mr. Gakibayo also appreciated Bishop Asiimwe for making available the former Bishop Stuart University premises to Makobore High School, a development he said had contributed to accommodating the school’s growing enrolment.
The headteachers assured the candidates that they had been adequately trained, guided and equipped and were ready to sit their final examinations.
The joint dedication service brought together candidates, teachers and school leaders in prayer as the students prepare to face their final examinations with confidence, discipline, hard work and faith in God.
