The activity was part of the ongoing initiatives taking place in Rukungiri District and across the country in preparation for the 2026 Tarehe Sita celebrations scheduled for 6th February.
The tree-planting exercise was carried out today, 10th December 2025, led by Brig. Gen. Justus Rukundo and a team of UPDF soldiers, together with the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Canon Eric Baingana Mugyenzi, who represented Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe. They were accompanied by Tumwebaze Olivias, the Diocesan Treasurer, and Mr. Mukiza Michael, the Diocesan Internal Auditor.
Speaking at the launch of the tree-planting activity, the Diocesan Secretary emphasized the importance of trees—particularly in environmental conservation—and noted their other benefits, including providing building materials and supporting educational needs
Brig. Gen. Justus Rukundo encouraged the community to promote environmental conservation through continuous tree planting. He explained that this is one of several activities being undertaken,
which also include the renovation of selected schools and institutions. He added that such activities are part of the UPDF’s commitment to engaging and supporting the community.
