Hundreds of Christians turned up today at Besania Prayer Mountain(Rukungiri) today, to mark the beginning of this year’s 40 days of Prayer and fasting. The event was officially opened by the Diocesan Mission Coordinator; Rev. Edson Ampaire on behalf of the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese; Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi. The guest speaker was Rev. Canon Charles Capson. In his opening sermon, Rev. Ampaire Edson made reference to the Holy scriptures from Isaiah 58:6 “The kind of fasting I want is this: remove the chains of oppression and the york of injustice, and let the oppressed go free.” and 2Chronicles 7:16 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (NIV). He requested the congregation to let those scriptures guide them throughout this lent period.
On the same event, Rev. Lamech Muramuzi; the Besania Prayer Mountain warden, encouraged Christians that in addition to prayer and fasting they should work hard for their homes and life sustainability. He also requested Christians to respect one another and their leaders being political or spiritual at all levels. He prayed for Christians to be guided by the Holy Spirit throughout the lent period. Meanwhile, many people gave their lives to God at the same event. Glory to God!
