North Kigezi Diocese News
The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has challenged Christians to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ, live lives that reflect His teachings and boldly share the Gospel with others, emphasising that a genuine encounter with Christ must bring transformation and inspire believers to become witnesses of His goodness in their homes, workplaces and communities.
He made the call on Thursday 5th November 2026 while preaching during a confirmation service for 230 Christians at St Peter’s Church of Uganda, Kashenyi, in Kashenyi Archdeaconry.
Preaching from John 4:1–30, Bishop Asiimwe drew lessons from the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well, emphasising that Christ knows everything about people’s lives and that encountering Him should bring about genuine transformation. He challenged Christians to turn away from sexual immorality and embrace lives that reflect their faith.
Referring to Psalm 139:1–7, the Bishop reminded the congregation that God knows their ways and that no one can hide anything from the Creator. He cautioned Christians against assuming that their actions and secret dealings were unknown to God, urging them to repent of sexual immorality, witchcraft, hypocrisy and pretence.
Bishop Asiimwe further encouraged those who had encountered Christ to make Him known to others through their daily lives, workplaces, businesses and communities.
Using the example of the Samaritan woman, who went out to tell others about Jesus after meeting Him at the well, he challenged believers to become witnesses of Christ’s transforming power.
He also cautioned parents and godparents against celebrating their children’s confirmation with alcohol, encouraging them to uphold Christian values and set godly examples for the newly confirmed Christians.
In her remarks, Maama Florence Asiimwe encouraged the confirmands to open their hearts and allow Christ to work through them as they embarked on a new chapter of their Christian journey.
She urged parents to remain vigilant and continue guiding their children, warning that the devil was constantly seeking opportunities to lead them astray, particularly at this stage of their faith journey. She cautioned the young Christians against alcohol and drug abuse, among other influences that could draw them away from Christ-centred living.
The Archdeacon of Kashenyi Archdeaconry, the Venerable Edison Muhirwe, thanked the Bishop for leading the confirmation service and strengthening the Christians in their faith.
He encouraged parents to continue bringing their children to church, helping them grow in the Word of God and nurturing their love for the Church. He noted that the children were the future of the Church and therefore needed to be properly grounded in Christ.
Speaking on behalf of the confirmants, Shine Asiimire, Isabella Nankunda and Blair Akankwasa expressed gratitude to their parents for introducing them to Christianity at an early age and supporting them throughout the confirmation process.
They noted that their preparation had equipped them with important Christian teachings, including how to live a Christ-centred life, the Apostles’ Creed and the Ten Commandments, among others. They pledged to put the lessons into practice and remain committed to their Christian faith.
