Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe In Nyakina For Diocesan Mission Sunday
Yesterday 3rd November 2024, the Christians were called upon to offer their bodies as living sacrifices holy and acceptable to God. The call was made while closing up a three day weekend diocesan mission at Nyakaina C.o. U under the Theme: Do not Conform to the Standards of this World.
Speaking to the congregants, Maama Florence challenged the Christians to receive the gift of salvation saying that when you have Christ there is peace. However, Maama Florence said that it’s not a matter of mentioning which year someone got saved but rather to keep living the gospel as she said that salvation is a journey.
In his words to the Christians, Rev. Canon Yorokamu Kamoomo stressed the point that all sins precedes from our thoughts in the mind. Using Romans 12:1-2, Rev. Canon Kamoomo said that when we allow bad thoughts to our minds, we yield to sin. He called the people (Christians) to live a life of reading the Bible, prayer and worship.
While speaking to the Christians, Rev. Canon. Steven Warren Turwomwe called upon the Christians to go back and tell others what they have heard. Using Jonah 1, he asked the people not to run away from God’s call and instructions like Jonah did; going to Tarshish instead of Nineveh. Speaking to the people, Rev. Canon Steven said that most have been blocked by sin and only run to be prayed for yet the heart is unclean.
Using Romans 12:1-2, Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe challenged the congregants not to be Conformed to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of the mind. In his words, Bishop O said that transformation comes when you accept Jesus Christ and it works inside out. Using a life cycle of a butterfly which is eggs, pupa, larva and adult, Bishop Onesimus said that a butterfly cannot become an egg again though it may lay eggs.
Bishop O in his words said when you come to Jesus and receive him, you do not remain the same. The Bishop said that receiving Jesus Christ does not make someone change physically (color, height, size etc) but rather the behaviors and character change which he termed transformation.
40 people received Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour. Over 2000 people availed themselves for the weekend mission at Nyakaina including the LCV Rukungiri District chairperson Mr. Geoffrey Kyomukama.
When called to speak to the people, Mr. Geoffrey Kyomukama the LCV Chairperson Rukungiri district thanked God for the peaceful and calm environment at the district headquarters. He attributed this to Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe following the pastoral visit he paid to the district headquarters.
Mr. Geoffrey Kyomukama called upon people not to use abusive language as we approach the time for campaigns against opponents but to rather speak only what they want to do.
He also called upon people to use the little land profitably and to conserve the environment by planting trees.
