On Sunday, 30th Jan 2022, North Kigezi Diocese priested 9 deacons in a colourful function. The priesting of the deacons followed a 3-days retreat for the 9 deacons together with their spouses that started on Thursday 27th Jan 2022 at Canon Ndimbirwe Bible College Kyamakanda and ended with the priesting on Sunday 31st Jan 2022 at Emmenauel Cathedral, Kinyasano. The deacons and their spouses’ retreat was meant to prepare them for the higher calling of priesthood.
The topics for the deacons and spouses’ retreat included;
- The role of a pastor; by Rev. Can. James Rutaraka
- Pastoral stewardship in the changing times; by Rev. can. Nathan Kirebete
- Integrity and accountability; by The Very Rev. Can. Baingana Eric Mugyenzi
- Effective leadership and Management; by Rev. Can. James Rutaraka
- The Pastor’s wife and the Women ministry; by Mrs. Adrine Kamuteera
- Building a self-sustaining church; by Rev. Can. Nathan Kirebete
- Building effective youths and Children’s Ministry in Church; by Rev. Andrew Kananura
- Church Vestment and records for effective ministry; by Rev. Can. James Rutaraka
The guest speakers were also assisted by other facilitators including the Care-taker Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese; Bishop Patrick Tugume Tusingwire, The Diocesan Secretary; Rev. Enoch Karamuzi, The Diocesan Missioner; Rev. Edson Ampeire, The Fathers’ Union Co-ordinator; Rev. Adonia Kibangira, and the Deputy Principal-Canon Ndimbirwe Bible College Kyamakanda; Rev. Brian Muhereza.
The Priesting
The priesting of the 9 deacons was officiated by the North Kigezi Diocese Care-taker Bishop; Rt. Rev. Patrick Tugume Tusingiwire, assisted by the Dean – Emmanuel Cathedral Kiyasano; The Very Rev. Can. Baingana Eric Mugyenzi, all the archdeacons, and all the clergy. The guest preacher of the day; Rev. Can. James Rutaraka.
The deacons that were priested include;

- Obed Tumwebaze
- Baributsya Emmanuel
- Nathan Muhumuza
- Gaston Kyomukama
- Musinguzi S. Amos
- Agaba Arthur
- Ayebare Brendah
On the same function, 4 pastors retired from active service and these include;
- Evas Kyecwere
- Canon James Mpungirehi
- Benon Baturwake
- Can. Dr. Patrick Mbaasa
The function was also attended by the retired clergy, the Lay Canons, the Church Pillars, and hundreds of Christians from different parishes across the Diocese.
