North Kigezi Diocese News
The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has called upon retired clergy to uphold unity, peace, and solidarity in their fellowship.
He made the call on Tuesday during a fellowship meeting of retired clergy held at the Consecration Site of Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano.
Speaking on retirement, Bishop Onesimus urged clergy not to fear life after active service, dismissing the notion that retirement automatically leads to poverty. He emphasized that poverty begins in the heart and reminded them that retirement from office does not mean retirement from ministry.
“You still have a lot to do. You can still baptize, conduct funeral services, preach, and serve God in many ways. Do not lose hope because you are retired,” he said.
The Bishop encouraged the retired clergy to remain active by exercising for good health, reading and writing, and regularly meeting for fellowship. He also advised them to focus on positive feedback and ignore discouraging comments.
Preaching from Ephesians 2:11–22, where the provincial theme “Anchored in Christ for Unity, Stability and Peace” for the year 2026 was derived, Bishop Asiimwe called upon the clergy to remember where they have come from and to always give thanks.“You cannot give thanks until you remember,” he noted.
On the subject of unity, he emphasized that unity is power, citing Genesis 11:5 on the Tower of Babel, where people spoke one language. He explained that Christian unity is rooted in Christ, adding that while even witches, thieves, and sorcerers can unite for evil purposes, Christ breaks hostility and unites believers for good.
He further clarified that peace does not mean the absence of trouble, but remaining firm even amid storms and calamities.“Our peace is not money, livestock, or children. Our peace is Jesus Christ,” he said.
On the same day, the retired clergy received their retirement pension for the year 2026. They expressed gratitude to Bishop Asiimwe and the diocesan administration for their continued care and support.
