North Kigezi Diocese News
The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has urged Christians of Burombe Church of Uganda in Kashenyi Archdeaconry to remain steadfast and determined in their journey of salvation.
He made the call on Thursday while presiding over a confirmation service at Burombe Church of Uganda.
While preaching from Mark 8:34–38, Bishop Asiimwe emphasized the importance of denying oneself and rejecting the spirit of selfishness such as “me first” and “I alone.” He noted that following Jesus comes at a cost, saying, “You have to leave one thing in order to gain something better.”
He explained that denying oneself means resisting temptations even when one has the ability and desire to give in. He warned believers that temptations will always come, as Satan sets traps, but Christians are called to forsake them.
The Bishop also encouraged believers to carry their cross, describing it as a willingness to sacrifice everything, endure shame, and even face death for Christ. “Carrying your cross means dying to sin and forsaking the pleasures of the world,” he said.
Bishop Asiimwe further emphasized that following Christ is a lifelong journey, not a one-day event. “Following Christ means living in active obedience and listening to Him daily,” he added.
He reminded Christians that although God appreciates good deeds, they cannot remove the condemnation of sin. He stressed that salvation comes through receiving Jesus Christ and being cleansed by His precious blood in order to inherit the Kingdom of God. He challenged believers to confess their sins, warning that “if you do not confess sin, sin will one day confess you.”
Addressing men in particular, Bishop Asiimwe called upon them to responsibly care for their families by using their finances wisely. He discouraged spending money on alcoholism and extramarital affairs, urging them instead to support their wives and pay school fees for their children.
He also assured Christians not to fear witchcraft, reminding them that God’s power is far greater than any earthly or demonic power. He encouraged believers to remain strong in faith and not be intimidated by witches
During the service, a total of 25 Christians were confirmed in their faith after successfully completing pre-confirmation classes and examinations.
Additionally, 100 people received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
In his concluding remarks, Bishop Asiimwe advised the local community to live in harmony following the recently concluded elections. He called upon both winners and losers to coexist peacefully and promote unity within the community.
