Christians in Bugarama C.O.U have been encouraged to sow in the Spirit and abandon the desires of the flesh in order to live righteous and productive Christian lives. The message was delivered by the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop, during his pastoral visit and confirmation service held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at St. Peter’s Bugarama Church of Uganda, located in Bwambara Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
While preaching to the congregation, Bishop Onesimus reminded believers that “those who sow in the flesh will reap destruction, but those who sow to please the Spirit will reap eternal life,” in reference to the provincial theme drawn from Galatians 6:9. He emphasized that Christians should give the same dedication to their spiritual growth as they do to caring for their physical bodies, noting that spiritual discipline leads to abundant and lasting rewards.
The Bishop called upon believers to intentionally weaken the flesh and strengthen the Spirit, praying that the Lord would help Christians “disadvantage the flesh so as to advantage the Spirit.”
Drawing from 2 Corinthians 9:6, Bishop Onesimus reminded the faithful that sowing generously yields a generous harvest. He further urged Christians to sow righteousness, citing Hosea 10:12, and cautioned that righteousness leads to grace while unrighteousness leads to destruction
He appealed to all Christians within the Archdeaconry to turn away from sinful lifestyles and embrace repentance and holiness. As a result of the message, over 300 people committed their lives to Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
In light of the upcoming 2026 General Elections, Bishop Onesimus called upon Christians across Rukungiri District to uphold peace, unity, and tolerance in political processes. He emphasized that every Ugandan has a constitutional right to vote freely and should exercise this right without fear, violence, or intimidation.
The Bishop also cautioned members of the clergy to remain neutral in partisan politics, stressing that they are shepherds to all believers regardless of political affiliation. “A priest is a uniting factor and must serve all God’s people without bias,” he said.
During the same service, 73 Christians from St. Peter’s Bugarama Parish were confirmed into the Christian faith.
Earlier in the day, Bishop Onesimus made a stopover at Bwambara Trading Centre, where he interacted with boda boda riders. He encouraged them to cultivate a saving culture by setting aside a small portion of their daily income. Using an illustration of a basin placed under a dripping tap, he explained that consistent saving, even in small amounts, leads to meaningful progress over time.
