Joy and happiness filled Rukungiri District Prison today as inmates received a fattened heifer from Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe. The donation was a Christmas gift that the Bishop had promised during his pastoral visit to the prison on November 12, 2025, when he conducted a confirmation service for 33 Christians.
During the handover ceremony held at the prison headquarters, Bishop Onesimus expressed gratitude to the prison administration for the strong partnership they have shared in doing God’s work. He noted that caring for inmates is a Christian responsibility, drawing inspiration from Hebrews 13:3.
“I have greatly enjoyed our partnership, especially in caring for inmates,” Bishop Asiimwe said. “Today, we have come to fulfill the promise we made during our last visit.”
Bishop Asiimwe further highlighted his long-standing relationship with Rukungiri District Prison, mentioning that he is often invited to preach the Gospel and conduct confirmation services for inmates. He added that remembering those in prison has always been part of his ministry and that this was not the first time he had extended such support.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the prison administration, the Deputy Officer in Charge, ASP Wandera, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Bishop Asiimwe for his generosity, kindness, and love toward the inmates.
“You have consistently shown us the love of Christ,” ASP Wandera said. “We are grateful for this Christmas gift, and we are confident that the inmates will be filled with joy when they learn that they have received a cow from you.”
He further assured the Bishop that the inmates would indeed enjoy the Christmas season.
The event was also graced by Mr. Amanyire Reuben, Head of Laity at All Saints Church Rukungiri, and Rev. Frank Kiconco, the Bishop’s Chaplain and Vicar of Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano.
To God be the glory!
