Christians in North Kigezi Urged to be Joyful, Pray and Give Thanks Always

North Kigezi Diocese News

Great joy and happiness filled Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano Consecration Site, North Kigezi Diocese, as hundreds of Christians gathered to support Rev. Julius and Moreen Niwagaba during their thanksgiving service on Wednesday.

The service was organized by Rev. Julius Niwagaba The Diocesan Missions Coordinator and his family together with Bishop Onesimus to give a hand in the cathedral construction which is at the roofing stage.

In his sermon, Bishop Asiimwe urged Ven. Katushabe to build his ministry on the strong foundation of Jesus Christ, emphasizing the responsibility of shepherding God’s people. Drawing from Galatians 6:9, the Bishop encouraged both the new Archdeacon and the congregation to “sow in the Spirit” through faithful service and the preaching of God’s Word.

Reading from 1 Thes 5:16, he called upon the Christians to rejoice always – rejoicing that the Bible speaks about is greater than worldly happiness. “This is the joy we get through salvation,” he added. Bishop Onesimus also called upon the Christians to Pray always without giving up saying – prayer is oxygen for a Christian. “A Christian who doesn’t pray suffocates,” said Bishop Asiimwe.

During the sermon Bishop Onesimus also challenged the congregants to give thanks at all times – give thanks to God for the many things you have had from God. “Don’t wait for problems to give thanks but rather give thanks always,” emphasized Bishop Asiimwe.

Former Bishop of Kigezi Diocese – Bishop William Rukirande called upon the Christians to prioritize salvation and repentance if they don’t want to taste God’s wrath. He expressed his disappointment how students (Masters and PHD Students) cheat and present research work which is not theirs – likening it with theft.

“I choose to give thanks to God because He has been faithful to me through good health, protection, provision for my family and in Ministry as His servant,” said Rev. Julius in his speech.

The service was attended by the Diocesan Secretary – Rev. Canon Eric Baingana, the Archdeacon of Buhunga Archdeaconry – Ven Benson Akankwatsa, the Archdeacon of Rubirizi Archdeaconry – Ven. Capt. Jallon Atusinguza, the Acting Archdeacon Rujumbura Archdeaconry – Rev. Canon Elisha Waswa, the Archdeacon of Nyakisoroza Archdeaconry – Ven. Dickens Baguma, Maama Florence Asiimwe, Reverends and other lay leaders within North Kigezi.

A total of twenty-two million Ugandan shillings (22,000,000shs) was collected during the thanksgiving service and this will go to support the on-going Cathedral construction.

To God be the Glory!
